New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declined to speak at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s 125th birth anniversary event on Saturday.

Mamata got agitated and furious after ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans were raised when she was invited to speak.

“Don’t insult me after calling me here. This is not a political programme. If you invite someone to a government programme, you should not insult them,” a visibly angry and upset Banerjee admonished the crowd before cutting short her speech.

Trinamool Congress leader also said that she was grateful to the Prime Minister and Cultural Ministry for organising the event at Kolkata.

“I think the government programme should have some dignity. This is a government programme and not a political party’s programme. I am grateful to the Prime Minister, Culture Ministry for organizing an event in Kolkata. But this is not fair to insult someone whom you have invited. In protest, I am not going to speak anything. Jai Hind, Jai Bangla,” she said.

Netaji’s 125th birth anniversary is being observed as Parakram Diwas in the country.

‘India should have 4 capitals’

Earlier in the day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that India must have four alternative capital cities. She said that British ruled entire country from Kolkata.

“I believe that India must have 4 alternate capitals. The English ruled the entire country from Kolkata. Why should there be only one capital city in our country,” said West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee while addressing a rally in Kolkata on the occasion of 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
