Farmers Protest: These laws are not in India’s interests & also threatens our food security, says Sitaram Yechury

The government and farmer unions have held five rounds of talks so far. Tomar and Goyal, who is also Minister for food and consumer affairs, have been present in previous rounds of talks. Tuesday’s meeting started around 8:30 pm and was attended by 13 leaders of farmer unions.

New Delhi:  The farmers are protesting against the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

JD(S) had opposed some points in the Bill. JD(S) had mentioned the changes needed. Congress had also opposed Bill but did not say what should be changed, it was limited to the role of Opposition. A significant change has been made in the Act as suggested by JD(S): HD Kumaraswamy

The opposition should manage its responsibilities constructively. In the case of the Land Reforms Amendment Act, JD(S) has done work for the benefit of the farmers. In terms of the Act, there was no justice by Congress or BJP. JD(S) has made the Act balanced: HD Kumaraswamy,JD(S)

Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Kisan Unions yesterday about amendments. Govt will today give a written proposal to Kisan Unions & they’ll think over it. Whatever will be in the interest of country & farmers, is being considered by all: Som Parkash, MoS, Commerce & Industry
