New Delhi: Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh passed away on Saturday after a prolonged illness.

The former UP CM was undergoing treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS). He was placed on dialysis after his health kept deteriorating over a period of time.

Topmost leaders of the party including Amit Shah, JP Nadda visited Kalyan Singh at the hospital in last few days.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath paid a visit to ailing Kalyan Singh at the hospital in Lucknow on Friday. The chief minister talked to doctors and enquired about his health.

The former Rajasthan Governor was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Sanjay Gandhi PGI on July 4.

Kalyan Singh was one of the tallest leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), whose affiliation with the party dates back to the days of Jan Sangh. He was also of the vocal proponents of Ram Mandir and it was his government that played pivotal role in strengthening the Ram Mandir movement.
