Ghaziabad: Samajwadi Party leader booked for giving ‘communal twist’ to assault incident

Umed Pahalwan Idris had publicly alleged that the attackers offered him an auto ride, took him to an isolated spot, brutally beat him up, and forced him to chant Jai Shri Ram.

New Delhi: In a fresh twist to the Ghaziabad man assault case, a Samajawadi Party leader, Umed Pahalwan Idris has been booked by police for giving the incident a ‘communal twist’.

The local SP leader appeared in a Facebook Live video alongside Ghaziabad assault victim Abdul Samad, who was allegedly beaten with sticks on June 5.

Police have alleged that Idrisi “attempted to give the incident a communal colour”.

Claims were made that the old man was beaten for not chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Police have, however, ruled out the communal angle, saying the accused — both Hindus and Muslims — attacked the man after a dispute over amulets.

The particular act presented a threat to law and order and tried to divide between Hindus and Muslim community.”

Ghaziabad Police had also booked some journalists including Mohammed Zubair and Rana Ayyub, Congress’s Salman Nizami, Shama Mohamed and Maskoor Usmani, writer Saba Naqvi, online media organization for allegedly spreading a ‘fake propaganda’.

Here’s what happened:

As per a leading portal, the old man named Abdul Samad was thrashed by a Parvesh, Aarif, Adil, Mushahid, Kallu and Poli on June 05. Samad, a local amulet seller, had sold one to the prime accused which allegedly had ‘adverse effects’ on his family.
