Karnataka: 9 booked for performing puja during Dasara festivities in Mahmud Gawan madrasa; Muslim community protest

Mahmud Gawan Madrasa in Karnataka: Mob forcefully entered the Madrasa and performed puja.

New Delhi: Nine people have been booked by the Bidar Police for allegedly trespassing into Mahmud Gawan madrasa, a heritage site and performing puja during Dasara festivities on Wednesday night.

According to reports, the mob also chanted slogans of  “Jai Shri Ram” and “Hindu Dharam Jai.”

Police said,  mob broke the lock of the madrasa and entered the campus.

Following which the members of Muslim community staged a protest.

Additional SP Mahesh Meghannavar said the situation is under control.

Chief of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, Asaduddin Owaisi Tweeted the visuals and said that BJP is promoting such activity only to demean Muslims.

Mahmud Gawan Madrasa in Karnataka’s Bidar is a designated heritage site under the Archeological Survey of India. The structure which was built-in the 1460s is also listed among monuments of national importance.
