Karnataka Legislative Assembly session to be held from May 22 to 24, RV Deshpande to be Pro-tem Speaker

Karnataka’s new Chief Minister Siddarmaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar arrived at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru after their oath-taking ceremony.

New Delhi: Karnataka Legislative Assembly session will be held from May 22 to 24, Monday to Wednesday, next week. Senior Congress leader RV Deshpande will be the Pro-tem Speaker for the session next week. Karnataka’s new Chief Minister Siddarmaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar arrived at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru after their oath-taking ceremony.

CM Siddarmaiah also addressed a press conference in Vidhana Soudha where he assured the public that the Congress government will fulfill the five promises they made during the election campaign. He said that the five guarantees were promised in the manifesto and the order for the implementation was given after the first cabinet meeting. He added that these guarantees will be in force after the next cabinet meeting to be held within a week.

Siddarmaiah also targeted the previous BJP government and called it ‘useless’. He said that the government could not get Karnataka a share of taxes properly. The Chief Minister said that the Centre has to give Rs 5,495 crores as per the finance commission recommendation, but the previous government did not get it.

He alleged that the state not getting its tax share is because of Union Finance Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Nirmala Sitharaman and PM Modi.

Siddarmaiah and DK Shivakumar were sworn-in to their posts this morning. Eight Congress leaders took the oath as Cabinet Ministers of the Siddarmaiah government.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge along with the central command of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Sonia Gandhi were also present along with Congress CMs in other states. The ceremony was also attended by opposition leaders including Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Mehbooba Mufti, and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin.
