Karnataka: Agitated over denial of loan, man sets bank on fire; police launch hunt

Person identified as Wasim Hazaratsab Mulla had filed an application for a loan several times but the bank rejected his application every time due to his low CIBIL score

New Delhi: In Haveri district of Karnataka, a man set the bank on fire on Sunday because he was upset with his repeated loan rejection by the bank. The accused person is said to be arrested by Kaginelli police after it registered a case for the crime.

The person, identified as Wasim Hazaratsab Mulla, is a resident of Rattihalli town of the state. Reportedly, Mulla was a customer of a branch of Canara Bank. The bank is reported to be situated at the Hedugonda village which comes under the jurisdiction of Kaginele police.

Mulla had filed an application for a loan several times but the bank rejected his application every time due to his low CIBIL score. Owing to this, he got enraged and arrived at the branch on the day at late night with petrol and set the bank ablaze. Before indulging in arson, he also broke the windows of the bank.

Police got the information about the fire from a passerby, who noticed the smoke from the bank’s building. By the time police reached the spot, it found that the fire damaged the bank’s assets worth Rs 12 lakh. It included computers, fans, lights, a passbook printer, a cash counting machine, documents, CCTVs, cash counters, and more.

The case against Mulla has been registered at Kaginelli police station under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 436, 477, 435 and hunt launched for the whereabouts of accused.
