Kejriwal holds roadshow over Surat victory but BJP’s claims over ‘AAP candidates losing deposits’ plays spoiler

AAP’s entry in Surat Municipal body: Gujarat BJP chief CR Paatil puts forth data and claimed that AAP candidates lost 100% deposits in 3 cities, more than 90% in 2 cities while above 50% in 1 city.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a clean sweep in 6 Municipal Corporation elections in Gujarat by winning 483 out of 576 seats, retaining power in all the civic bodies – Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made a stunning debut, winning 27 seats in Surat Municipal elections. AAP’s foray in the western state left the party elated and overjoyed. AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal also held a roadshow in Surat to celebrate the party’s stupendous performance there.

But, this claim by Gujarat BJP chief CR Paatil is no less than party pooper for the party. Punching holes in the AAP victory boast, CR Paatil today claimed that AAP candidates lost their deposits in most the constituencies.

According to him, 59 AAP candidates lost deposit in Surat, every AAP candidate lost deposit in Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar while 44 out of 48 candidates in Jamnagar and 68 out of 72 in Rajkot lost their deposits.

Paatil claimed that AAP candidates lost 100% deposits in 3 cities, more than 90% in 2 cities while above 50% in 1 city.

Clearly, going by these claims, there is nothing much for the AAP to rejoice and make tall claims over making inroads in Surat civic body polls.
