New Delhi: The Ghaziabad Police has served another notice to Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari and asked him to appear in the police station and record a statement in connection with the incident. The police in its FIR has accused Twitter of “letting the anti-social messages go viral”.
The assault of an elderly Muslim man was captured on camera and went viral on Twitter, a couple of days later after the incident.
“Failing to appear before the police would be considered as non-cooperation in the investigation & action will be taken as per law,” the notice to Twitter India MD by Ghaziabad Police read.
Two notices have been served to Twitter India so far for alleged disruption of communal harmony. The officials have been asked to appear before the investigating officer.
Earlier today, Maheshwari responded to the police notice and said that the officials would be ready for questioning via video conferencing.
What happened in Loni
The matter pertains to physical assault of an elderly Muslim man, which went viral on the microblogging site. The man was thrashed and his beard was chopped off for allegedly refusing to chant Jai Shri Ram in Loni. Police however, ruled out any communal angle to it.
