Maha’drama’ over extortion row: Parambir Singh moves SC, demands CBI probe against HM Deshmukh

In the petition in the Supreme Court, Parambir Singh has challenged his transfer to the Maharashtra Home Guard Department and sought protection against any coercive action from the state.

New Delhi: New Delhi: In a fresh twist to the ‘extortion’ row involving Anil Deshmukh, former Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh on Monday moved the Supreme Court and sought CBI probe against the Maharashtra Home Minister.

In the petition, Singh also challenged his transfer to the Maharashtra Home Guard Department and sought protection against any coercive action from the state. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi will be appearing for Param Bir Singh.

Param Bir Singh was last week transferred from the post of Mumbai police commissioner.

Last week, Param Bir Singh wrote an explosive letter addressed to CM Uddhav Thackeray, claiming Anil Deshmukh had asked arrested cop Sachin Vaze and other police officers to collect Rs 100 crore monthly, including Rs 50 to Rs 60 crore from bars and hotels in Mumbai.

‘Leaked’ WhatsApp chat ‘corners’ Home Minister

A WhatsApp chat allegedly putting on record, the meeting between Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and police officials has added spike to the ongoing controversy.

According to WhatsApp chat, the meeting between Sachin Vaze and Anil Deshmukh happened in the end of February 2021.

Deshmukh releases video to counter claims

Meanwhile, Deshmukh has denied all the allegations amid a political slugfest over Singh’s allegations against him.

“A few journalists were waiting for me at the hospital gate after I got discharged on 15th February. I was feeling low and weak so I sat on the chair there and responded to their questions. Then I went straight to my car and went home. I was in home quarantine from February 15th to 27th. I stepped out of my house for the first time on February 28th,” Deshmukh said, rejecting claimed that he had addressed a “press conference” on February 15 and met cops in the last week of February.
