New Delhi: In a shocking incident, four Sadhus were assaulted in Maharashtra’s Sangli district by a mob on the suspicion of being child lifters on Tuesday.

According to the media reports, the incident is said to have occurred at Lavana village in the district.

In the video which has now gone viral on social media, shows mobs beating the sadhus outside a grocery store with sticks in the presence of several onlookers.

According to the reports, the four Sadhus had come from Uttar Pradesh to Lavanga to visit temples. The sadhus had come from Mathura and were supposed to visit different places including Sangli district. The incident took place in a village where they the sadhus stayed in a temple at night.
Sources said that the incident occurred when the Sadhus were asking about the route direction from the boy in the village. Meanwhile, enraged villagers misunderstood their identity had started an argument and later thrashed them with sticks.

After the video of the incident has gone viral, Sangli SP Dikshit Gedam said, “We’ve not received any complaint/formal report, but are looking into viral videos & verifying facts. Necessary action to be taken.”

Meanwhile, Maharashtra BJP MLA Ram Kadam condemned the act and said the state government will not tolerate such “misbehaviour” with the sadhus.
In the video message he, said strict action will be taken against the accused.
