MCD Elections Exit Poll 2022: Change of regime in municipality likely after 15 years

A change of regime is expected after three terms of Bhartiya Janta Party governance in the municipality.

New Delhi: Exit poll results for the MCD elections held on December 4 has been released. A change of regime is expected after three terms of Bhartiya Janta Party governance in the municipality. Aam Aadmi Party is leading the exit polls while Congress and NCP have a small share of wards.

According to the India Today group, AAP has 149-171 wards with them while BJP is winning in 69-91 wards. Meanwhile, Congress and others have 3-7 and 5-9 wards respectively. The exit polls show AAP leading in all regions except for North-east Delhi where BJP stands as the leader. This indicates a massive victory for AAP as the Bhartiya Janata Party won 181 of the 270 wards in 2017.

MCD elections were held on December 4 in 250 wards as compared to 270 last time. A total of 50% turnout was recorded in the 2022 MCD elections, as compared to 54% in 2017. A total of 1,349 candidates took part in the elections with over 1.45 crore electors.

BJP won the elections for the third consecutive time with 181 wards. On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party even after forming the government in assembly elections, could muster up only 48 seats. Congress won in 30 wards while other parties and individual candidates won in 11 wards.

2022 election results

The results of the 2022 MCD elections will be announced by the Election Commission on December 7.
