New Delhi: MCD elections were held on December 4 in 250 wards of Delhi. While the results will be announced on December 7, the exit polls results will be declared after 5:30 pm onwards on December 5. A total of 50% turnout was recorded in the 2022 MCD elections, which was about 54% in 2017.
A total of 1,349 candidates took part in the elections with over 1.45 crore electors. In the last elections, Bhartiya Janata Party won 181 of the 270 wards and this year, a close contest is expected between BJP and AAP while Congress and NCP are expected to gain a little. While BJP has been in power in MCD for the last 15 years, AAP is looking to tighten their hold over the national capital and make a statement for the next general elections.
When and where to watch?
The exit poll results of the MCD elections will be declared after 5:30 pm on December 5. The State Election Commission in Delhi has prohibited releasing exit polls in any form of media before 5:30 pm as assembly elections are underway in Gujarat and the exit polls might influence it. After 5:30 pm, the exit polls will be out on TV channels and websites of different news media outlets including Newsroom Post.
2017 election results
BJP won the elections for the third consecutive time with 181 wards. On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party even after forming the government in assembly elections, could muster up only 48 seats. Congress won in 30 wards while other parties and individual candidates won in 11 wards.
