Monkeypox: 2nd suspected case in Delhi with symptoms and travel history, alert issued

A total of 4 cases of monkeypox have been found in the country yet, out of which three have been found in Kerala and one in Delhi

New Delhi: Yet another suspected case of contagious monkeypox has come to the fore in the national capital on Wednesday. The patient is currently admitted to LNJP Hospital in Delhi.

The patient is said to have symptoms similar to the monkeypox virus with skin rashes and severe fever. Notably, a total of four cases of monkeypox have been reported in the country so far.

The patient’s sample has been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune, and the doctors are waiting for the results to arrive in order to confirm the disease.

According to a Hindi news daily, a person who came in contact with the first infected patient with monkeypox from Delhi has complained severe body pain and is under observation.

The first patient found in Delhi is admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital and is recovering. Doctors have said that his skin rashes and wounds will take at least one more week to heal.

Alert Issued: 

On the other hand, after the arrival of recent monkeypox cases, the Union Health Ministry has issued an alert to all the states.

Now the travelers coming to the national capital Delhi from abroad with symptoms of monkeypox infection will be sent to LNJP Hospital from the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The hospital has prepared a seperate ward for the particular patients.

Meanwhile, states such as Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also on alert and have reportedly made the required arragements.
