New Delhi: In a Major breakthrough the Narcotics Control Bureau conducted raids on over 10 bank accounts belonging to Shawkat Hussain Shah @ Tehmil Hussain @ Vinod and Irfan Ahmad Shangloo U/s 68F (1) of NDPS Act 1985.
The Narcotics Control team received a secret information in which one parcel containing Narcotics drugs was intercepted at a courier company in Delhi and 824 grams of Ketamine was seized under the provision of NDPS Act-1985. Further, in follow-up action on 24.08.2023, another suspected Parcel was also intercepted at a courier company in Delhi and 998.2 grams of Ketamine was seized from it.
Moreover, the sender of both parcels Shawkat Hussain Shah @ Tehmil Hussain @ Vinod was apprehended and on his disclosure, 8.830 Kilograms of Ketamine was seized from his rented house in Delhi. During further investigation, his associate Irfan Ahmad Shangloo was also arrested on 04.12.2023. Presently both accused persons are in Judicial Custody in Tihar Jail.
Ketamine is listed as a psychotropic substance in the schedule of the NDPS Act and is considered to have a high potential for abuse and dependence. The possession, sale, purchase, transportation, and consumption of Ketamine without a valid license or prescription is illegal and punishable under section 22 of the NDPS Act 1985.
The punishment for offenses related to Ketamine under the NDPS Act for commercial quantity minimum 10 years to 20 years imprisonment and a fine of up to ₹2 lakhs, depending on the severity of the offense. The NDPS Act also provides for the forfeiture of property and assets derived from the illegal trade of Ketamine. The complaint against both the accused persons was filed in this case on 15.02.2024.
