NDMC, Traffic Police relaunch Raahgiri Day program in Connaught Place

People gathered at the centre of the national capital to enjoy a Sunday as Raahgiti returns after three years.

New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Committee (NDMC) and Delhi Traffic Police relaunched the Raahgiri Day program at the Inner circle of Connaught Place. The program was conducted from 7 am to 10 am and has been started again to contribute towards G20’s goal of ‘Creating Sustainable & Livable Cities’ and sustainable mobility. People gathered at the centre of the national capital to enjoy a Sunday as Raahgiti returns after three years.

People attended the self-defence program and also enjoyed Zumba. Streets of CP were converted into a car-free zone for the public to enjoy fun activities including dance and music. Raahgiri was also used to raise awareness for road safety and women’s safety, while people were also taught cycling.

Delhi Police also held a game called ‘Road Safety Ludo’ to teach children about the issue.

Raahgiri Day is part of the Delhi Police Week celebrations 2023, which are going on from February 16 to 22. Kicking off the program again has brought back the energy to city after the COVID-19 pandemic.

While talking to the media, IPS Commissioner Of Police Sanjay Arora said Raahigiri is to improve the quality of life in society. He added that traffic and vehicles have an adverse impact on society, and walking and the use of streets for pedestrians will improve the social fabric.

Special Commissioner of Delhi’s Traffic Police, SS Yadav said that they started the program with the hope that the roads are for pedestrians and not for a vehicle-centric traffic approach. The motive of the program is also to honour ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ as every human’s dignity must be respected.
