Nightmares force thieves to return 14 idols stolen from Balaji Temple

“All the 14 idols have been deposited in Kotwali police station and further action is being taken”, the police informed

New Delhi: An incident reported from the Chitrakoot district of Uttar Pradesh might seem like a miracle to some or just a sham to others, but is equally interesting to all who’ve heard of it.

In a bizarre instance from the heartland, the Mahant of an ancient Hindu temple found that 14 precious idols, which were stolen earlier this month were returned by the thieves on their own.

According to news agency PTI, sixteen ‘Ashtadhatu’ idols (made up of a combination of eight metals) worth crores, were stolen from the ancient Balaji temple on the night of May 9.

Sadar Kotwali Karvi’s Station House Officer (SHO) Rajiv Kumar Singh told, “In this connection, Mahant Rambalak had lodged an FIR against unknown thieves”.

Though, 14 out of the 16 idols were found in a sack near the priest Rambalak’s house under mysterious circumstances on Sunday.

“Out of 16 stolen idols, 14 were found mysteriously in a sack near the residence of Mahant Rambalak. In a letter, the thieves claimed that they were having nightmares after committing the crime and were not being able to sleep”, police said on Monday.

“All the 14 idols have been deposited in Kotwali police station and further action is being taken”, the police further informed.

A similar incident had occurred in Karnataka last month, where the thieves had returned the jewelry stolen from the idol of goddess Durga which also included a precious mangalsutra. The preist was surprised to find a daan of Rs 101 along with the mangalsutra by the theives.

In an another case, a CCTC footage of Sri Subramanya Swamy Temple in Tavarekere had come to light wherein a theif broke into the temple secretly, but instead of looting any valuables, he was caught praying to the idols of gods and then leaving the premises empty hands.
