“No hurry…”: CEC Rajiv Kumar on Wayanad LS bypoll after Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification

Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification: Here is what CEC Rajiv Kumar said on Wayanad LS bypoll.

New Delhi: CEC of the Election Commission of India Rajiv Kumar today said that there is no hurry on Wayanad LS by-poll after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the Parliament for his “Modi surname” remark.

He said that Rahul Gandhi has 30 days to exercise judicial remedy in the 2019 defamation case.

He further said that Election Commission has six months’ time to hold a by-election after a seat falls vacant. He said that the ECI will wait for it.

CEC Rajiv Kumar said this while he was announcing the schedule for Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023.

Rahul Gandhi Disqualification:

Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha, a day after a Surat court sentenced him to two years imprisonment in a defamation case filed against him over his ‘Modi surname’ remark.

However, the Congress leader was granted bail on a surety and stayed the sentence for 30 days to allow him to approach the higher courts.

After Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification, a massive political row erupted with the BJP stating that the Congress leader  Rahul Gandhi was “a habitual loose cannon” and the Congress alleged that he was “deliberately disqualified”.

Rahul Gandhi arrives at the CPP office:

Today Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived at the Parliament to attend the meeting of Congress MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at the CPP office.

Rahul Gandhi also offered prayers on the occassion of Chaitra Dura ashtmi.
