No new colleges in Delhi since 2015, buses reduced by 700: RTI reveals Kejriwal govt’s failed promises

Inspite of adding new buses, the number of DTC buses has gone down in the city from 4,461 buses (in 2015) to 3,760 (in 2020). This means about 700 buses have been put off on city roads in last 5 years.

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has failed miserably on its poll promises made in 2015 and 2020, a Right To Information (RTI) plea, filed by city resident has revealed.

Delhi CM and ministers keep tom-tomming about AAP government’s achievements especially in improving education infrastructure but they seem to more of hollow promises rather than any substantial step.

The RTI reveals that not a single college has been opened in the capital, after Arvind Kejriwal took over as Delhi CM. It may be noted that AAP in 2015 elections had promised to build at least 20 colleges.

DTC buses curtailed, in spite of augmenting public transport

In a metropolitan city like Delhi, public transport forms a key component in sustaining economic activities. In 2015, Kejriwal had promised to add 5000 more buses in DTC fleet but the reality is that its numbers have been depleting for years now.

Inspite of adding new buses, the number of DTC buses has gone down in the city from 4,461 buses (in 2015) to 3,760 (in 2020). This means about 700 buses have been put off on city roads in last 5 years.

Lack of parking space may be a constraint in augmenting bus service but is it a wise decision to curtail buses in a city like Delhi, where buses are mainstay of many office goers and small business operators.

‘No new hospital commissioned’

In yet another RTI revelation, filed by Tejpal Singh, it was found that no new hospitals were commissioned by Delhi government.

“As per information available in Hospital cell of DGHS, it is informed that No new hospital has been commissioned under Delhi government, during the period from April 2015 to 31st March 2019 (sic),” said Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Delhi in written reply to the RTI petitioner.

No new flyovers built from 2015-2019

Flyover

Delhi’s Public Works Department (PWD), replying to petitioner, said saying that no flyover were built in the national capital between April 1, 2015 and March 31, 2019.

However, while inaugurating the RTR Flyover in July 2019, CM Kejriwal had claimed that his government built 23 flyovers in the last four-and-a-half years.
