“Not running government, we’re managing it”: Karnataka Law Minister says in leaked audio

JC Madhuswamy had to face irk from one of his party collegues Munirathna, himself a minister in the cabinet

New Delhi: One of the controversial remarks by Karnataka’s Law Minister JC Madhuswamy brought major embarrassment to his ruling government in the state and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

The comment came into spotlight after an audio of the Minister was leaked and reached to the media. CM Bommai had to release a statement on the matter after the issue escalated, wherein he accepted that the clip was not forged but authentic, though he claimed that the comment was taken ‘out of context’.

In the controversial audio clip, JC Madhuswamy can be heard saying, “We are not running the government, we are just managing it”.

The remarks reportedly came after several speculations about the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) terminating 62-year-old Bommai’s tenure as the chief minister of the state owing to increasing dissatisfaction of the people with his governance.

However, some senior BJP leaders have confirmed that the party high command is in favour of waiting for the next assembly polls supposed to be held next year in the state.

While covering up for Madhuswamy, CM Bommai told the media on Tuesday, “Everything is good, there’s no trouble. I will speak to all concerned and settle the issue”.

Meanwhile, the law minister had to face irk from one of his party collegues Munirathna, himself a minister in the cabinet. Slaming the controversial remarks, Munirathna said, “If he thinks that we are managing, he should step down immediately as the Law Minister of Karnataka. He is a part of the government. He is a part of every cabinet meeting and the decision that’s made”.

” If he has made that statement, that means he is also party to it. Being in a ministerial position, it is irresponsible of him to make such a statement”, he added.
