Nupur Sharma requests media houses not to make her address public; Here’s why

After the major criticism, BJP suspended Nupur Sharma and leader Naveen Jindal from party’s primary membership

New Delhi: Hours after BJP leader Nupur Sharma was suspended from the party over controversial remarks on Prophet  Mohammed, she has requested the media houses and others on social media for not making her address public, claiming her family to be under security threat.

“I request all media houses and everybody else not to make my address public. There is a security threat to my family”, Sharma wrote on Twitter.

BJP has shown party spokesperson Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal way out of the party on accusations of making controversial remarks on Islam. Recently, violence had erupted in Kanpur on grounds on Nupur Sharma’s statements.

Nupur had allegedly made the remarks on Prophet  Mohammed during a debate on an Indian news channel.

In the suspension letter, party’s Central Disciplinary Committee wrote- “You have expressed contrary views to the position of the party on various matters… For further investigation, you are hereby suspended from the party and from your responsibilities with immediate effect.”

In his statement, party’s national general secretary Arun Singh said that the BJP is against any ideology that insults any sect or religion. BJP do not stand in support of people who insult any religious heads.

Mumbai Police has also registered an FIR against Nupur Sharma based on a complaint by Irfan Shaikh, Joint Secretary, Mumbai Wing of Raza Academy. It states that Nupur Sharma has allegedly made derogatory remarks about the Prophet in a TV debate on the Gyanvapi issue. Although Nupur Sharma has been denying this.
