UP couple dies of heart attack on wedding night, cremated on same pyre

The couple’s death from cardiac arrest was confirmed by the post-mortem examination report, according to Superintendent of Police (SP), Bahraich, Prashant Kumar.

New Delhi: A newlywed couple was discovered dead the following morning after their wedding in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district on Thursday. According to the autopsy report, both the bride and the groom deceased of heart attacks.

Pratap Yadav, 22, married Pushpa, 20, on May 30. The newlywed couple went to bed in the bedroom on May 31 and were discovered dead the following day. In Pratap’s village, the couple was burned on the same pyre.

On Tuesday night, Pratap wedded Pushpa, and the ‘Baarat’ (marriage procession) proceeded to the groom’s house on Wednesday evening. According to a Hindustan Times article, the couple went to sleep on Wednesday night after two days after the marriage ceremony, citing the Inspector in charge of Kaiserganj police station, Rajnath Singh.

“Although there were no indications of being forced into the residence or injury traces on the married couple’s body that indicate there was no criminal angle in their fatalities, the autopsy’s findings of experiencing a heart attack simultaneously have some brought up apprehensions,” the inspector said. The inspector added that a team of forensic experts is inspecting the room and circumstances to determine the cause of the deaths.

The couple’s death from cardiac arrest was confirmed by the post-mortem examination report, according to Superintendent of Police (SP), Bahraich, Prashant Kumar.

The SP continued, “A team of forensic experts examined the couple’s bedroom and found that the space lacked ventilation and in the absence of any ceiling fans and lack of air circulation, the possibility of a cardiac arrest could not be ruled out.” Kumar added that there were no indications of a forced entry into the space or wounds on the couple’s bodies, eliminating any possibility of a criminal motive.

The State Forensic Science Laboratory in Lucknow has preserved the viscera from both bodies for further analysis. We have not yet heard from the families with any complaints,” he continued.
