Parliamentary standing committee summons Facebook, Twitter over social media misuse

Parliamentary standing committee on IT has summoned Facebook and Twitter officials on January 21, in connection with the prevention of misuse of social media.

New Delhi: Parliamentary standing committee on IT has summoned Facebook and Twitter officials on January 21, in connection with the prevention of misuse of social media.

The summons from the Standing Committee on Information Technology came amid a huge row over data privacy.

Earlier, The plea was filed by advocate Chaitanya Rohilla who stated that WhatsApp changed its Privacy Policy in “most arbitrary manner” and had made it compulsory for its users to accept its terms and conditions, failing which the accounts and services would be terminated after February 8, 2021 for the respective user.

WhatsApp's updated privacy policy challenged in Delhi High Court 

The petitioner said that the changed policy violates the Right to Privacy of the citizens of India, which is a fundamental right guaranteed in the Part-III of the Constitution of India.
