PM Modi, French President Emmanuel Macron attend launch event as Air India acquires 250 aircrafts from Airbus

Chairman of Tata Sons, Natarajan Chandrasekaran announced that Tata has signed a letter of intent to acquire 250 aircrafts from the French company.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron attended the launch event of the new partnership between Air India and Airbus via video conference. Chairman of Tata Sons, Natarajan Chandrasekaran announced that Tata has signed a letter of intent to acquire 250 aircraft from the French company. PM Modi also addressed the virtual meeting on the agreement.

Addressing the meeting, PM Modi said that it is a big step to deepen the ties between India and France, from point of view of India’s civil aviation sector. He said that remote areas in the country are getting air connectivity under the UDAN scheme. He also lauded aerospace manufacturing under the ‘Make in India – Make for the World’ vision.

Talking about the India-France ties, the PM said that on the issues of security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, global food security and health security, both countries are together in making a positive contribution.

French President Macron invited scientists, tourists, artists and students from India to France to strengthen the ties between the two nations. He added that Airbus is dedicated to cooperating with India and called it a ‘historic opportunity’.

The event was also attended by India’s Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury.

Tata-owned Air India has signed 40 wide-body A350 planes and 210 narrow-body ones. The companies signed the deal on February 10. Since acquiring Air India, Tata is looking to expand it in the aviation sector by acquiring aircraft.
