New Delhi: During his three-day visit to Europe, PM Narendra Modi held meeting with Prime Ministers of Norway, Sweden, Iceland & Finland in Denmark on Wednesday. This happened on the sidelines of second India-Nordic Summit.
Prime Minister handed over a slew of gifts/mementos to heads of different states including Norway, Sweden, Finland & others. Earlier, on his first leg of Europe trip, PM Modi gifted German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, ‘Sedali’, a craft that is native to Surat.
1. Dokra boat from Chattisgarh to HRH Crown Prince Fredrik of Denmark
Dhokra which can also be spelled as Dokra is a non-ferrous metal casting used with the help of the lost-wax casting technique. This form of craft has been in India for more than 4,000 years and has continued to remain popular.
2. Rogan painting from Gujarat to the H.M. Queen Margrethe
This is a type of cloth printing practiced in the Kutch District of Gujarat. This form of art is made from boiled oil and vegetable dyes, which is laid down on fabric using either a metal block (printing) or a stylus (painting). The craft nearly died out in the late 20th century, with Rogan painting being practiced by only one family.
3. Silver Meenakari Bird figure from Banaras to HRH Crown Princess Mary
The craft of silver enameling has been practiced in Benaras (Varanasi) and is almost 500 years old. The art has originated in the Persian art of Meenakari (Meena is the Persian word for glass). The most distinguishing element of Banaras meenakari is the use of pink colour in various shades on various products.
4. Brass Tree of Life from Rajasthan to PM of Finland
The Tree of Life symbolizes the development and growth of life. The branches of a tree grow and develop upwards and contain various life forms representing inclusiveness.
5. Dhaal with Koftgiri art from Rajasthan to PM of Norway
Tarkashi (Koftgiri) is made of metal and is a traditional art form of Rajasthan. Koftgiri craft is intended to enrich the surface of the metal of which the art is made.
6. Wall hanging with Kutch embroidery to PM of Denmark
PM Modi gifted Kutch embroidered wall hanging from Gujarat. The embroidery, practiced normally by women is generally done on cotton fabric, in the form of a net using silk or cotton threads of myriad hues.
7. Pashmina stole in a Papier Mache box from J&K to PM of Sweden
Pashmina is an exclusive art of the Union Territory of Kashmir, India which is known for producing one of the finest Pashmina stoles. Pashmina Stoles are a symbol of luxury and elegance.
