Prime Minister Modi held video conference with chief ministers to discuss the issues, an exercise he has been doing regularly ever since the outbreak of the pandemic early last year.

New Delhi:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with CMs over growing cases of COVID-19 and the ongoing vaccination drive has come to an end.

While interacting with the CMs, PM Modi said, ‘We must stop the rising second peak of COVID at an earliest. For this, we need to take quick and decisive steps.’

He further said, ‘If we do not stop this pandemic, it might create a national outbreak-like situation.’

CMs of West Bengal and Chattisgarh are not attending the interaction with PM on Covid situation and vaccination.

PM Modi’s last interaction with CMs was in January 2021, just before the vaccines were rolled out. At that time, he had announced that the Centre will bear all expenses of vaccinating nearly three crore healthcare and frontline workers during the first round of inoculation.

Coronavirus in India

The Union Health Ministry on Wednesday said Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu collectively account for 71.10% of the 28,903 new COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours.

India’s total active caseload stands at 2.34 lakh (2,34,406) today, comprising 2.05% of the total cases. Maharashtra, Kerala & Punjab account for 76.4% of total active cases, with Maharashtra alone contributing nearly 60%, said Union Ministry of Health.

It further said, “15 states/UTs have not reported any COVID19 deaths in last 24 hours. These are Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Lakshadweep, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Dadra&Nagar Haveli & Daman&Diu, Nagaland, Tripura, Ladakh, Manipur, Mizoram, A&N Islands & Arunachal Pradesh: Health Ministry.”
