Punjab elections: AAP releases 2nd list with 30 candidates, including former top cop

The 117-member Punjab Assembly election is likely to see a tri-cornered contest with AAP, Congress & Akalis. The poll schedule is yet to be announced by the Election Commission.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has declared its second list of candidates for the Punjab Assembly elections, slated for early next year. The second list has names of 30 candidates and includes a former Punjab cop.

Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, a former Punjab top cop, resigned from service in April this year and joined Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP. The cop is known for leading the SIT probe into 2015 Kotkapura & Behbal Kalan firing case. The former Inspector General of Police had tendered his resignation after Punjab & Haryana High Court quashed SIT probe into the 2015 Kotkapura firing incident.

The former cop has been given ticket to contest from Amritsar North.

Raman Bahel is another prominent name in the list of 30 candidates. Bahel had quit Congress last month and joined the AAP. He will contest from Gurdaspur.

Punjabi singer Anmol Gagan Mann has been given charge of Kharar seat while Balkar Singh Sidhu will contest from Rampura Phul seat.

Other prominent AAP leaders in the 2nd list includes includes DCP Balkar Singh (Kartarpur), Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar (Amritsar South), Balbir Singh Pannu (Fatehgarh Churian), Sherry Kalsi (Batala), Gurdit Singh Sekhon (Faridkot), Ravjot Singh (Sham Chaurasi).

Kulwant Singh Sidhu will fight from Atam Nagar, Manwinder Singh from Payal (SC), Naresh Kataria from Zira, Jagdeep Singh from Muktsar, Neena Mittal from Rajpura, Harmeet Singh from Sanour, Chetan Singh from Samana and Madan Lal Bagga from Ludhiana North.

A month ago, AAP y had announced names of 10 candidates in 1st list. All of them are sitting legislators.
