Rajasthan: Booked for pregnant woman’s death, distressed doctor commits suicide in Dausa

The family of the deceased patient had created a ruckus at the hospital and had filed an FIR against her under Section 302 of the IPC

New Delhi: A 42-year-old gynecologist, Archana Sharma commits suicide by hanging herself in Rajasthan’s Dausa on Tuesday. The incident took place a day after she was booked for allegedly causing the death of her patient.

According to the police, a pregnant woman had died at the hospital run by Dr Archana and her husband.

The family of the deceased patient had created a ruckus at the hospital and had filed an FIR against her under Section 302 of the IPC (murder) at the Lalsot Police Station.

In her suicide note, Dr Archana has mentioned that the patient had died during a normal procedure, told Anil Beniwal, Superintendent of Police, Dausa.

“She has made a request not to harass innocent doctors”, he further said.

Meanwhile, Dr Sharma has had a notable career before she and her husband establish a private hospital in Lalsot. Previously, she had worked as a unit head in Government Medical College, Gandhinagar in Gujarat.

Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Society (PHNHS), Jaipur has called for a one-day work boycott of healthcare services in private hospitals across the city on Wednesday.

Dr Vijay Kapoor, secretary PHNHS told the media, “In the matter related to the death of a pregnant woman in Anand Hospital, Lalsot, Dausa, the local police were very serious about registering a case under Section 302 against the orders of the Supreme Court”.
“Dr Sharma committed suicide. It was not murder, but the woman died during the normal course of treatment. We decided to hold a complete medical bandh in Jaipur on Wednesday”, he added.
