Rajasthan: School teacher sacked for ‘celebrating’ Pak victory over India in T20 game, put ‘we won’ status

A teacher from Rajasthan’s Udaipur has been sacked after she posted a WhatApp status on Pakistan’s victory over India in T20 World Cup.

New Delhi: Following Pakistan’s victory over India in the T20 World Cup on Sunday, a private school teacher in Rajasthan’s Udaipur has been dismissed from service and a case against her has been registered against her.

The teacher was ‘celebrating’ Pakistan vicotry over India and even put up a WhatsApp status which said, “we won”. She also put emojis, a vivid sign of her affection for Pakistani players.

The teacher identified as Nafeesa Attari at Neeraj Modi School Udaipur posted a picture of Pakistani players with the caption, “Jeeeet gayeeee… We wonnn.”

Within a few hours, her WhatsApp status went viral all over the web. Soon after, she was terminated from the school by the management.

“Yes, we have taken a decision to terminate the teacher,” said school chairman Mahendra Sojatia after a meeting of the Sojatia Charitable Trust, which runs the school.

A case against her has been registered under the Indian Penal Code section 153 (provocation with intent to cause internal riot), stated Amba Mata Police Station officer, Narpat Singh.

Pakistan won the ICC T20 World Cup opening match by 10 wickets against their arch-rivals India on October 24.

Terminated teacher issues apology

Later, a video was released by the teacher where she mentioned that she did not have any intention of hurting anyone’s sentiment and she apologises for the post she shared.

“Someone messaged me and asked whether ‘you support Pakistan’. As the message had emojis and it was environment of fun, I replied ‘Yes’. But, it doesn’t mean anywhere that I support Pakistan. I am an Indian and I love India. I love India as much as everyone else does,” stated Ms. Attari in the video message.

Further, she added, “As soon as I realised that I have made a mistake, I deleted the status message. I am sorry if I have hurt anybody’s sentiments.”
