Republic Day Celebrations: PM Modi pays homage to martyrs at National War Memorial

PM Narendra Modi led the nation in paying homage to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives at the National War Memorial in Delhi.

New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi led the nation in paying homage to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives at the National War Memorial in Delhi. Prime Minister then put down his remarks in the digital Visitor’s Book of the National War Memorial.

PM Modi was received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on his arrival, while he was accompanied by the Inter Services Guards, founded by 7 Soldiers from each service.

At the 74th Republic Day celebrations, the guards were commanded by an Air Force Officer, Sqn Ldr Akash Ganghas.

When the Prime Minister laid the wreath, the Inter-Services Guards presented `Salami Shastra’ followed by ‘Shok Shastra’, while the buglers played the ‘Last Post’. It was followed by a ‘two minutes silence’ and the buglers played ‘Rouse’ as the guards presented ‘Salami Shastra’ again.

This ceremony marked the beginning of the Republic Day celebrations before President Droupadi Murmu arrives with the chief guest, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. PM Modi and other dignitaries moved to the Kartavya Path for the parade.

Earlier, PM Modi tweeted and wished the nation on the occasion and asked the citizens to unite and move forward. He also mentioned that this year, the Republic Day celebrations are special because India is celebrating the ‘Amrit Mahotsav’ of its independence.
