Rs. 10 Lakh fine for Vistara over a flight landing

DGCA also fined Air IndiGo on 28th May, for deficient handling of a special child by the ground staff. IndiGo was fined Rs. 5 lakh by DGCA.

New Delhi: Air Vistara, one of the leading airlines in India, was fined Rs. 10 lakh for violating safety regulations. India’s aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) fined the airline for allowing an improperly trained pilot to land a flight at Indore Airport, Madhya Pradesh with passengers on board.

The first officers have to train to land a flight in simulators before being allowed to land an actual flight with passengers. Similarly, a Captain also trains in a simulator, before giving landing instructions to the first officer. In this case, the flight was landed by the pilot, who was the first officer, without first receiving training in a simulator. “This was a serious violation endangering lives of the passengers on board,” an official said.

The first officer, as well as the captain, were not trained in a simulator before landing the flight. This is a serious violation as the lives of the passengers on board were at stake. This lapse was detected when the Vistara flight landed at Indore. Though, at the moment, it is unclear from where the airplane took off and when exactly the incident took place.

DGCA also fined Air IndiGo on 28th May, for deficient handling of a special child by the ground staff. IndiGo was fined Rs. 5 lakh by DGCA.
