Sanjay Arora appointed as Commissioner of Delhi Police

Sanjay Arora, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre has been appointed as the Commissioner of Delhi Police.

New Delhi: Sanjay Arora has been appointed as the Commissioner of Delhi Police. He was serving as DGP of ITBP. He is the 1988-batch IPS officer.

Meanwhile, SL Thaosen, Director General, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has been given additional charge of the post of DG, ITBP till further notice.

An official notification which was released today by the Ministry of Home Affairs that said, “Police Division MHA has conveyed the approval of the Competent Authority for inter-cadre deputation of Sh. Sanjay Arora, JPS (TN: 1988) from Tamil Nadu Cadre to AGMUT Cadre”.

The notice further said, “In pursuance of the said approval, Sh. Sanjay Arora, IPS (TN: 1988) is hereby appointed as Commissioner of Police, Delhi with effect from 1st August 2022 or from the date of taking over charge whichever is later and till further orders”.

Who is Sanjay Arora?

According to the reports, after joining the IPS, he served in various capacities in Tamil Nadu, including being Superintendent of Police (SP), Special Task Force, where he achieved significant success against the gang of dacoit Veerappan.  He was also awarded the Chief Minister’s Gallantry Medal for his achievement.

It is also said that in 1991, he played an important role in forming a Special Security Group (SSG) for the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu during LTTE activity.

On the other hand, outgoing Delhi police commissioner, Rakesh Asthana, will be bid farewell today at the Parade ground in New Police Lines at 4 pm.
