SC dismisses PIL seeking complete ban on BBC in India from airing ‘India: The Modi Question’ documentary

BBC documentary ‘India: The Modi Question’: Supreme Court today dismissed a ple seeking complete ban on the airing of it.

New Delhi: Supreme Court today dismisses the PIL seeking a complete ban on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and BBC India from operating from Indian territory of airing the documentary titled, ‘India: The Modi Question’ relating to the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Supreme Court rejected the PIL today and called it “misconceived”. While rejecting the PIL, the SC even asked “how can a documentary affect the country?

According to reports, on January 21, the Centre issued directions for blocking several videos on YouTube and Twitter sharing links to the controversial BBC documentary.

A PIL was also filed by Hindu Sena President Vishnu Gupta in the apex court seeking to impose a complete ban on the documentary.

The United Kingdom’s British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) documentary (two-part series) attacked PM Modi when he was the Chief Minister during which the Gujarat riots of 2002 sparked outrage. The BBC documentary was also removed from several platforms.
