New Delhi: The BBC documentary row has sparked a nationwide debate while students at different universities are screening it. Members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) planned a screening of the documentary ‘India: The Modi Question’ at the Presidency University in Kolkata, which was followed by a power cut. Allegedly, a similar power cut incident was seen at the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus in Delhi when JNUSU members were screening the BBC documentary on PM Narendra Modi. Later, the JNU students marched toward the Vasant Kunj police station claiming stone pelting by ABVP members during the screening.

The screening for the documentary is being planned in various institutions across the country. Delhi Police imposed Section 144 (banning large gatherings) of CrPC at the Faculty of the Arts at Delhi University as NSUI-KSU was planning the screening of the documentary. In a statement issued by DCP Sagar Singh Kalsi, he said that 20-25 students came for the screening of the banned documentary and when they did not go back even after being told to do so, they were detained by the Delhi Police.

Earlier,  13 students were also detained after a ruckus outside the Jamia Millia Islamia University over the screening of the documentary.

The government termed it as a ‘propaganda piece’ and pulled down the documentary from various social media platforms including Twitter and Youtube. Allegedly, several tweets that supported the documentary or shared it were also deleted.
