Sonia Gandhi hints at retirement from politics, says ‘happy that my innings could conclude with Bharat Jodo Yatra’

Despite Sonia’s clear hint at retirement, she left people guessing whether she will contest Parliamentary elections from Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli.

New Delhi: Congress veteran & UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday dropped a big hint about her retirement from politics.

Addressing the three-day All India Congress Committee (AICC) meet in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur, Sonia said that she was happy that he innings could conclude with the culmination of Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Signaling an end to her political career, Sonia said, “Our victories in 2004 and 2009 along with the able leadership of Dr Manmohan Singh gave me personal satisfaction but what gratifies me most is that my innings could conclude with the Bharat Jodo Yatra, a turning point for Congress.”

Despite Sonia’s clear hint at retirement, she left people guessing whether she will contest Parliamentary elections from Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli.

Hitting out at the BJP-led Centre, Sonia said, “This is a challenging time for Congress and the country as a whole. BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have captured and subverted every single institution in the country. It ruthlessly silences any voice of Opposition.”

“It has caused economic ruin by favouring a few businessmen,” said Rae Bareli MP in wake of row over Hindenburg’s report on the Adani group.
