“Sorry, I am not good…”: IIT Madras PhD scholar dies by suicide, third case in this year

A statement was also released by the IIT Madras, which said that research scholar was an exemplary academic record.

New Delhi: In yet another shocking incident, a student at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras died by suicide in his room.

Police said that the student has been identified as a 32-year-old from West Bengal who was pursuing his PhD at IIT, Madras.

During the investigation it was also found that hours before he commited suicide, he had posted a WhatsApp status saying “Sorry, I am not good enough”.

Police said that after his staus was seen by his friend he had rushed to his room where he found Sachin hanging in his room. Soon an ambulance was called where he was declared dead.

A statement was also released by the IIT Madras, which said that research scholar was an exemplary academic record.

The body was taken to the Royapet Government Hospital for autopsy after the police took its custody.

This is the third suicide case that has been reported from IIT Madras, also the 11th case since 2018.

On March 14, a third year B-Tech student died by suicide at Madras IIT Campus. The deceased was  identified as Vaipu Pushpak Sree Sai (20), a native of Andhra Pradesh.

A police case was registered in this matter and further investigation in this case is still underway.

A research scholar from Maharashtra had died by suicide in a room inside the IIT campus on February 14. He was also found hanging in his room.
