Surat: 15 labourers killed while sleeping on footpath; CM Rupani condoles loss of lives, announces Rs 2 ex-gratia

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani expressed his condolences to the families of the workers who lost their lives after a dumper truck ran over them during sleep in Surat.

New Delhi: In a tragic incident in Surat, 15 labourers were killed in their sleep as a dumper truck ran over them when they were asleep. The incident took place in Kosamba city. The truck ran over 18 people sleeping on a footpath at Kim Char Rasta, 13 of whom died on the spot while 2 died later. Others have been hospitalised.

According to police, all the deceased are labourers and they hail from Banswada district of Rajasthan.”

“A truck collided with a tractor loaded with sugarcane after which the driver of truck lost control of the vehicle and drove it over the pavement where the people were sleeping,” CM Jadeja, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kamrej Division, Surat said.

PM, CM express condolences over loss of lives

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoles the loss of lives in Surat and said, “My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Praying that the injured recover at the earliest.”

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from PMNRF (Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund) to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the accident in Surat. Rs 50,000 each would be given to those injured.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani expressed his condolences to the families of the workers who lost their lives as the dumper truck ran over them in Surat.


Rupani also announced for assistance of Rs 2 lakh by the state government to the family of the deceased in Surat road accident.
