Terrorist Osama Bin Laden’s photo in a govt office, Farrukhabad SDO draws fire

New Delhi: A major controversy has broken out over display of a photo of global terrorist Osama Bin Laden’s photo in a government office in Farrukhabd district of Uttar Pradesh. A SDO, working in electricity department of the town is drawing intense flak for glorifying the terrorist and putting him as an ideal person.

Osama Bin Laden had masterminded the 2011 terror attack at United State’s Word Trade Centre and was neutralised by specialised US forces years later.

As the photo of terrorist in a government office landed on social media, it went viral in no time and drew intense criticism from all quarters.

The matter pertains to an office of the Electricity Distribution Corporation of Farrukhabad district, where the SDO Ravindra Prakash Gautam got Osama’s photo installed at his office. What’s more shocking is that the SDO considers the dreaded terrorist as his ideal and also calls him the world’s best engineer.

A lot of netizens are denouncing the govt official’s abhorrent and distasteful act. Many said that they have always seen photos of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr B R Ambedkar, Prime Minister and Chief Ministers in govt offices but such strange behaviour smacks of serious lapse. They are demanding action against the govt official for defiling the sanctity of a govt office but also hurting sentiments.

After the controversy escalated and the department faced heat, Osama’s photo has been taken down, however, the officer is said to be defiant. He maintains that it’s his choice to select his ideal and nobody should have any problem with it.

Meanwhile, the senior officials have gone into hiding. When mediapersons tried to reach the department via phone, the calls went answered. Superintending engineer SK Srivastava however informed that the official in question has been summoned and the process has been set in motion for initiating disciplinary action against him.
