‘Thali Bajao’ 3-Year Anniversary: Today in 2020 PM Modi asked public to appreciate frontline Covid workers

22 March 2023 marks the three-year anniversary of ‘thali bajao’ when PM Narendra Modi asked Indians to clang utensils on their balconies as a mark of solidarity and appreciation for the frontline workers dealing with Covid-19.

New Delhi: While the world has battled Covid-19 to some extent, the situation was not so open and positive back then. 22 March 2023 marks the three-year anniversary of ‘thali bajao’ when PM Narendra Modi asked Indians to clang utensils on their balconies as a mark of solidarity and appreciation for the frontline workers dealing with Covid-19.

Three years ago, PM Modi announced the ‘Janata Curfew’, which was a one-day lockdown to fight the pandemic. The one-day lockdown eventually blended into a complete lockdown, that kept on extending. While announcing the ‘Janata Curfew’, the Prime Minister asked the public to clang plates and other utensils for five minutes at 5 pm on March 22.

People in large numbers came out on their balconies to appreciate and show their support for, who were later called, the Covid Warriors. Celebrities and the public also shared their videos of clanging utensils.

Meanwhile, the move also faced criticism as some people came out of their houses and defeated its purpose. While some also criticised the Modi government for making futile announcements rather than looking into the Covid situation.

While India battled multiple waves of Covid-19, the disease keeps on coming back and showing a bit of a surge. Following a recent surge in Covid-19 cases, PM Modi will chair a high-level meeting today to review public health preparedness. As per the recent data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the nation recorded 1,134 new cases in the last 24 hours and currently has 7,026 cases. Delhi also recorded a death due to Covid-19 this week.
