Uber driver thrashes Bangalore woman and son for boarding wrong cab; arrested

The accused even thrashed the woman’s son when he tried to intervene and save his mother from the assault.

New Delhi: A disturbing incident come forward from IT hub Bengaluru where a cab driver thrashed a woman for mistakenly boarding his vehicle. The incident occurred on Wednesday under the jurisdiction area of Bellandur police in the locality of Bhoganahalli.

Uber driver assaults woman for boarding wrong cab

As per the victim’s side of the story, she booked herself an Uber on Wednesday in order to take her son to the hospital. However, when she walked out of her house and saw an Uber cab parked outside, she immediately sat inside the vehicle assuming that it was the one she has called. Later, as the woman realised that she has boarded the wrong Uber, she tried to move out of the vehicle but the accused driver Basavaraju put the car into drive and started moving it.

When the woman objected to him, the driver lost his cool and had an altercation with her following which, he got out of his vehicle and assaulted the victim by repeatedly hitting on her head inside the apartment’s premises of a gated community. The accused even thrashed the woman’s son when he tried to intervene and save his mother from the assault.

Locals come to the rescue

Finally, the locals saw the incident and rushed to the aid of the victims which caused Basavaraju to panic as he tried to flee from the spot.

However, he was captured by the public before he could exit the society’s entry gate. After arresting the driver, the residents informed the officials and filed a police complaint against him following which, the Police initiated an investigation into the matter on the bases of the victim’s statements and the CCTV footage of the crime.

Uber’s response

The victim’s husband Ajay Agarwal also voiced his anger against Uber on his Twitter saying,” Uber India: Tech shines, Humanity sucks.”

Responding to his tweet, Uber condemned the whole episode and assured the victim’s husband that they will investigate the matter and take all necessary measures needed.
