UP Budget: Govt earmarks over Rs 20,000 crores to boost medical sector

Rs 320 crore proposed for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

Uttar Pradesh was able to get through the Covid-19 pandemic with the help of CM Yogi’s leadership and the support of the populace, said Finance Minister Suresh Khanna while presenting the budget for the medical sector. Additionally, he continued, health facilities and infrastructure quickly adopted a new direction while keeping these challenges in mind, which has been greatly appreciated by all.

The Yogi government is committed to giving every resident of the state access to better medical facilities. In this way, a sizable budget of more than Rs 20,000 crores ( Rs 20162.39 crores) has been allocated to the medical sector, of which Rs 17325 crores have been released for medical and health and Rs 2837.39 crores have been allocated for medical education.

A provision of Rs 12631 crore is proposed for NRHM

Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said that the Yogi government’s main focus is on providing better health facilities to the people living in the rural areas of the state. In such a situation, the maximum amount of Rs 12631 crore has been released for various programs being run under the National Rural Health Mission so that better health services can be made available to the person standing at the last rung.

Similarly, Rs 1,655 crore has been arranged for the Pradhan Mantri Aatmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana. Establishment of health wellness centers, critical care units, integrated public health labs in cities, strengthening of the National Center for Disease Control, and the establishment of a portal for the expansion of health information under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission Scheme. An amount of Rs 1,547 crore has been arranged for the establishment of an Emergency Operation Center and Mobile Unit Hospital etc.

Rs 2491.39 crore allocated for 14 new medical colleges

The Yogi government has also given special importance to medical education in its budget. The Yogi government has made an arrangement of Rs 2491 crore 39 lakh for the establishment and operation of 14 new medical colleges to give further impetus to the scheme of ‘one district one medical college’ in the state.

It is noteworthy that medical colleges are operating in 45 districts of the state while medical colleges are under construction in 14 districts. On the other hand, medical colleges are being established in 16 districts on PPP mode. An arrangement of Rs 200 crore is proposed for the construction of 14 divisional offices and laboratories, machines and equipment.

An amount of Rs 400 crore has been released in the budget for Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana under Ayushman Bharat. Sub-health centers and primary health centers are being converted into functional Health and Wellness Centers in a systematic manner by the Government of India. In such a situation, according to the recommendation of the 15th Finance Commission, an expenditure of about Rs 407 crore will be made for the conversion of rural sub-health centers and PHCs to health and wellness centres.

Rs 320 crore proposed for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

Finance Minister Suresh Khanna has released Rs 320 crore for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Rs 250 crore for the Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Abhiyan under Ayushman Bharat, Rs 100 crore for purchasing equipment in community health centres. Rs 15 crore has been proposed for the rejuvenation of primary and community health centers. Rs 100 crore has been allocated for the treatment of incurable diseases. An arrangement of Rs 20 crore has been made for the establishment of the Uttar Pradesh Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development. Rs 26 crore has been given for the establishment of nursing colleges in autonomous medical colleges.
