UP Minister bitten by a rat, assumes snake-bite; top officials accompany him at hospital

As the news spread, the district administration went into a tizzy and rushed to circuit house & hospital. Top bureaucrats & officials including the DM, ADM, SSP, CMO and others reached the circuit house and stayed with the Minister till morning.

New Delhi: The government officials in Banda district of Uttar Pradesh had a difficult time on Sunday night as Girish Chandra Yadav, minister in the Yogi cabinet got bitten by a rat during his stay at the circuit house.

However, the minister thought it to be snake-bite and panicked. As his health started deteriorating, the circuit house officials were informed, who in turn passed on the information to city DM & SSP.

Top officials of the district administration rushed to the guest house and immediately got the Minister admitted to hospital. They stayed with the minister, monitored his treatment and left only after he was discharged in morning.

What happened at Circuit House

Girish Chandra Yadav, Minister of State for Youth welfare & Sports, was on a two-day visit to Banda. He was staying in Room No 6 at the circuit house during the weekend.

The circuit house in Banda is surrounded by deep forests. At around 2-2.30 AM in the morning, the minister suspected that he was bitten by something in his right hand’s finger. Suffering acute pain in the finger, the minister thought he was bitten by a snake. This led to deterioration in his health.

As the news spread, the district administration went into a tizzy and rushed to circuit house & hospital. Top bureaucrats & officials including the DM, ADM, SSP, CMO and others reached the circuit house and stayed with the Minister till morning, reported a Hindi daily.

The minister was admitted to hospital at 3 AM and was attended by senior doctors. After a couple of hours, his health showed improvement and was subsequently discharged in morning at 6 AM.

CMS Dr SN Mishra later told newsmen that the minister was bitten by a rat and not snake. The minister is completely fine & healthy.
