Uttar Pradesh: BJP sweeps co-operative land development bank polls, SP routed

Co-operative land development bank polls: BJP candidates won 281 seats unopposed out of 311 seats for which elections were held on Tuesday, while Opposition led by SP could barely manage 30 seats.

New Delhi: In a major victory for the saffron party and thumbs-up to Yogi government, BJP-backed candidates swept the co-operative land development bank polls in Uttar Pradesh.

BJP candidates won 281 seats unopposed out of 311 seats for which elections were held on Tuesday.

Opposition party mainly led by Samajwadi Party could barely manage 30 seats while polling on 11 seats was countermanded following complaints.

Co-operative bank polls turned out be a cakewalk for BJP as it won most of the seats without Opposition fielding any candidate. The ruling party credited its immense popularity behind the move while the Opposition accused them of hijacking the polls by misuse of state power.

Ready to sacrifice few LS seats

Akhilesh Yadav-led SP which had significant clout in these bodies has been ousted and routed badly. SP’s criticism of Yogi govt on development issues is clearly not striking the chord with the people.

On polling day, BJP & SP supporters clashed in Kannauj

The supporters of Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party clashed with each other in Kannauj on Tuesday. They pelted stones and scuffled during the election for the post of representative in the Cooperative Village Development Bank’s Tirwa branch in Kannauj.  Thathiya police station in-charge Rajkumar Singh was also injured.
