Vice-Presidential elections: NDA’s Jagdeep Dhankhar files nomination, why it’s a relief for TMC

Alva, a five-term Congress MP and also former Union Minister has got the backing of many Opposition parties and will challenge Bengal governor for the Vice-President post.

New Delhi: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar filed his nomination for the Vice-Presidential election on Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present during his filing of nominations.

While NDA’s Droupadi Murmu fights an easy contest with Opposition’s Yashwant Sinha in today’s election, the race for Vice-President will also see poll fight with Congress’ Margaret Alva.

Shortly after filing nomination for V-P, Dhankhar said that he will strive for democratic values of the country.

“Never thought even in my dreams that a person with humble background like me will get this opportunity,” Dhankhar said.

Dhankhar Vs Alva

In the Vice-Presidential elections, Dhankhar has been pitted against Opposition candidate Margaret Alva.

Alva, a five-term Congress MP and also former Union Minister has got the backing of many Opposition parties and will challenge Bengal governor for the Vice-President post.

Why Dhankhar’s nomination, a relief for TMC

Jagdeep Dhankhar, if elected to the top constitutional post, will come as a big relief for the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). Mamata govt’s repeated squabble with Bengal governor, in public and latter’s condemnation of CM’s policies made the Bengal govt vulnerable & miserable.

Mamata govt & Bengal government have been at loggerheads for quite some and found sniping at each other at many occasions. A couple of TMC leaders also sought Dhankhar’s removal from the post.

TMC leader Saugata Ray admitted speaking to press that the party is relieved over his nomination for the Vice-President post.

Political analysts believe that his nomination has been done after due deliberations. As he is a proven legal luminary, his election as V-P will be an asset for the highest office as Droupadi Murmu doesn’t have any such experience.
