Video: Four killed, several injured after crane crashes at a temple festival in Tamil Nadu

The crane operator has been taken into custody, said Ranipet Collector Bhaskara Pandiyan.

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, at least four people were killed and several others were injured after a crane crashed at a temple festival in Tamil Nadu on Sunday evening.

The incident took place at Draupathi temple at Tamil Nadu’s Ranipet.

The crane crashed while receiving garlands from the devotees, at this time around eight people were present.

The incident is said to have occurred at around 8.15 pm.

According to the witnesses, the crane carrying idols of God and Goddesses crashed abruptly.

The procession where the incident happened was a part of the Draupathi Amman festival. This procession is held after Pongal.

Now the video of the incident has gone viral on social media.  In the video, the people can be seen hanging on the crane and collapsing to the ground.

After the incident, the devotees who were present there started running in panic.

Meanwhile, Police have registered a case in this matter and an investigation is underway.

The crane operator has been taken into custody, said Ranipet Collector Bhaskara Pandiyan.

He said there was no permission or intimation for using the crane at the temple festival as it’s a private temple.
