New Delhi: Conrad Kongkal Sangma popularly known as Conrad Sangma is the 12th and the current Chief Minister of Meghalaya.
1n 2016, Conrad Sangma became the President of the National People’s Party after the death of his father who was a former Chief Minister, and former Speaker of the Lok Sabha P. A. Sangma.
From 2016 to 2018, Conrad Sangma was also the Member of Parliament from Tura.
Who is Conrad Sangma?
In the eighth Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, he was also a former leader of the opposition. He represented the NPP from the West Garo Hills’ Selsella constituency
In 2008, Conrad became the youngest Finance Minister of the state.
Conrad was first elected to the State Assembly along with his brother James in 2008, both as NCP members in the state elections. Conrad Sangma also was given several important portfolios in the state cabinet, including Finance, Power, Tourism, GAD and IT. He also presented his first annual budget of the state within 10 days of debuting as a minister.
From 2009 to 2013, Conrad Sangma was the Leader of the Opposition.
In 2004, Conrad Sangma contested his first election and lost by 182 votes.
Conrad Sangma was born on 27 January 1978 in Tura, Meghalaya. He did his schooling at the St. Columba’s School in Delhi.
He did his bachelor’s degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, in business administration in entrepreneurial management. He did his MBA in finance from Imperial College London.
He is married to Mehtab Chandee, a doctor by profession, on 29 May 2009. The couple is blessed with two daughters.
