New Delhi: A day after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expanded his new cabinet by inducting 31 new ministers, including 16 from key ally RJD, now a controversy has erupted after RJD MLC Kartikeya Singh was inducted as the law minister of the state.
Who is Kartikeya Singh?
RJD MLC Kartikeya Singh, who was to was to surrender in Danapur court on August 16 in a kidnapping case had reached Raj Bhavan in Patna to take oath as the new minister in the Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar.
Case against Karthikeya Singh
It was in 2014, when a case of kidnapping was registered against Karthikeya Singh and 17 others in Patna’s Bihta police station. Karthikeya Singh is accused of conspiracy to kidnap a builder with the intent to murder. A chargesheet was also filed in this case. After which a warrant was issued against Karthikeya Singh on July 14 2022 and he was to surrender on August 16 2022 but instead of surrendering in the court, he reached Raj Bhavan to take oath.
Karthikeya Singh-MLC of Rashtriya Janata Dal
Kartikeya Singh is the MLC of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), he got place in the Bohar Cm’s cabinet through the RJD quota. Kartikeya Singh, is a resident of Mokama. Apart from being in politics, he was also a teacher by profession.
On Tuesday (August 16), Kartikeya Singh took oath as a minister in the Nitish cabinet. After taking oath, he was given the law ministry.
Charges against Karthikeya Singh
Karthikeya has been charged under several sections of IPC such as 363(kidnapping), 364 (kidnapping with intent to murder), 365 (Secret, unjustified kidnapping with intent to imprison), and 34 (The incident was committed by more than one person).
Earlier on 16 February 2017, Patna High Court had rejected the anticipatory bail petition.
