New Delhi: Sadhna Gupta, wife of Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh CM Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away after a prolonged illness on Saturday.
Sadhna Gupta was admitted to Medanta Hospital for the last 15 days due to a severe lung infection. Though her condition deteriorated and she was shifted to the intensive care unit in Gurugram on Saturday wherein she took her last breath.
Here’s a look at Sadhna Gupta’s life from saving then RLD leader Yadav’s mother Murti Devi’s life to becoming a member of the most powerful political dynasty in the heartland of India.
Who is Sadhna Gupta?
Few people knew about Sadhna Gupta until 2003. After the demise of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s first wife and Akhilesh Yadav’s mother, Malti Yadav, Sadhna Gupta got the status of Mulayam Singh’s wife that year.
Sadhna was a native from Vidhuna in Auraiya distict of UP.
She is Mulayam Singh’s second wife and Aparna Yadav’s mother-in-law, who had joined the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) months before recently concluded assembly polls in the state this year.
Mulayam and Sadhna’s love story
Though, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Sadhna Gupta hasn’t ever formerly opened up about their private life, yet certain details were spilled in journalist and writer Sunita Aaron’s biography book on Yadav’s first son Akhilesh Yadav.
In the book named Badlaav Ki Lahar Aaron writes, “Initially, Sadhana and Mulayam casually knew each other. Later, both came closer because of Mulayam’s mother Murti Devi who was suffering from prolonged illness.
Sadhna took care of Murti Devi during her treatment at a nursing home in Lucknow and later at the Saifai Medical College.
“A nurse in the medical college was going to inject a wrong drug to Murti Devi, which came to Sadhna’s notice as she was present there at the moment and stopped the nurse from doing so”.
Mulayam was quite impressed when he came to know of this incident and this is how their relationship started.
When Mulayam accepted Sadhna as his wife
Sadhana came in Mulayam’s life during 1988s, after which he became the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Since then he started considering Sadhna lucky for himself.
If reports are to be believed, Mulayam’s entire family knew about their relationship then, but nothing came out in public domain.
The relationship came to light when Yadav gave an affidavit in the Supreme Court in the disproportionate assets case against him that read – I accept that Sadhna Gupta is my wife and Prateek is my son.
On July 5, Sadhana was rushed to Medanta in Gurugram due to severe lung infection and this love story came to an end on July 9.
