Yogi govt mulls compulsory retirement of police officials aged over 50

According to reports, UP DGP has written to letter to all heads of police units, all IG ranges and ADG zones to prepare a report in this regard.

New Delhi: Acting on its ‘zero tolerance against corruption’ pledge, the Yogi government has come up with a plan to cut extra flab from the police force. The state government is scanning police officers with dubious records or those whose links with any gangster has been proved for compulsory retirement from service.

Such police officials with ‘tainted’ track record will be asked to retire if they have crossed 50 years of age. This is yet another step of state govt to bring transparency in governance while also making the police more efficient and more agile.

According to reports, the UP DGP has written to letter to all heads of police units, all IG ranges and ADG zones to prepare a report in this regard.

The letter reportedly has instructions to screen the police personnel who have crossed 50 years of age. From constables to inspectors, all personnel will be scanned for consideration under ‘forced retirement’.

According to reports, 30 such police officials have also been identified for giving compulsory retirement. Out of which, 17 are review officers, 8 section officers, 3 secretaries and 2 deputy secretaries. Details of past cases and investigations are being collected against them so as to prepare a strong case for compulsorily retiring from the service.
