Yogi Govt to equip 11,750 UPSRTC buses with GPS & panic button facilities soon

The Yogi Government is working on equipping as many as 11,750 UP Roadways buses with the GPS tracker and panic button facilities soon in order to to make women’s journey safer.

New Delhi: In its ongoing drive to protect, honour and empower the women of the state and make them self-reliant, the Yogi Adityanath Government has come up with yet another landmark initiative.

The Yogi Government is working on equipping as many as 11,750 UP Roadways buses with the GPS tracker and panic button facilities soon in order to to make women’s journey safer.

The buses to be upgraded with these facilities include both ordinary and AC buses. The panic button, for example, will be helpful when there is an accident as it will be connected to Dial 100, while GPS will help identify the location of the accident easily for emergency services to reach there immediately.

As soon as a passenger will press the panic button when an accident takes place, Dial 100 will automatically come to know about it and pass on the information to the control room of the Uttar Pradesh State Roadways Transport Corporation (UPSRTC). Subsequently, the interceptors and officers of the corporation deployed on various routes will rush to the spot with the police.

The government will utilise Rs 15 crore from the Nirbhaya Fund to install the two devices in buses that will make women of the state feel much safer when onboard while the GPS will allow officials at the control room to keep an eye on the buses at all times.

The Board of Directors of UPSRTC has already given its nod to the proposal for the installation of the two devices in State Roadways buses. The tenders for the same will be issued on May 28, while the deadline for submitting bids is June 11. The company winning the tender will set up its own command centre, connect it to Dial 100 and operate the facility.

It is worth mentioning here that the Yogi Government had earlier launched Pink buses to ensure safety of women. The buses are proving to be immensely useful in safeguarding women onboard. Meanwhile, soon after assuming office, the Yogi Government, formed the Anti Romeo Squad to protect girls and women from eve teasers and other anti-social elements. The Yogi Government also received an award from the Centre for the good work done in the districts under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign.

CM Yogi Adityanath also got more than 1 lakh girls from poor families married under the Chief Minister Collective Marriage Scheme. The Government has launched many such schemes to empower women and make them self-reliant in the state. With the efforts of CM Yogi Adityanath, initiatives are also being taken to constitute one woman battalion of PAC each in Lucknow, Badaun and Gorakhpur districts of UP.
